Rod Licences….
Today I had news that a friend of mine has been caught by the EA without a licence. Infact he was fishing 3 rods so should have had 2 licenses. I had to chuckle to myself… he’s excuse is that he simply forgot to buy one. Although he had fished at 3-4 other times before this session without getting caught. Hmm!!!
Not sure about you but everytime i leave to go fishing i make sure i have my rod licence, its second nature and i always check its in my tackle bag. I know that at anytime it could be checked for, ok its not the end of the world as the EA can phone it in to check if i’d accidently left it at home. But still i know i need to have one before i can go fishing!
I had word the other day at the number of people fined recently in my area for not having a licence. I couldn’t believe the low number, but then i thought to myself how many times have i been checked whilst out and about on my fishing adventures… probably 5 times in the last 4 years. And in that time i have probably been fishing 150-200 times. That’s atleast a 1 in 30 chance of getting caught and thats just me, what about others that fish a few times or more every week?
Now not meaning to be too far off the wall but i think one of the main reasons for most people forgetting or not purchasing is the sheer fact people now believe they can get away with it so why bother getting one!
Why don’t fisheries check licences? Why is there not more EA wardens on the banks? Why build a fishery for prisoners? Surely more staff on the bank would result in more revenue from more people purchasing and from fines that these checks produce. Sometimes it just doesn’t make sense!
And if you havent got one click here to go get yourself one!
