Well low and behold i managed it!  Back out on the bank today and damn it felt good….!

After the rain yesterday which absolutely chucked it down i wasn’t too sure how good it would be but conditions looked perfect for a decent day out.   I arrived at 6:30am and silver fish were moving as normal, but none of the anticipated pike action to be seen anywhere… baits were cast around the swim but still no signs and no takes.  Very perculiar for this area that i was fishing…!

A move was made after a few hours and i managed to lose what felt like a good double!  Gutted!  Moved to smaller baits for the perch under a 5ssg loafer float and let it drift around, after two minutes whop the float was under and i was in at last… unfortunately again a lost fish.  Re-cast to the same and the stripey fancied another go, damn it hit the bait hard!  Thankfully this one was landed and was around a pound.  Very happy!!!  Shortly after another 2 were taken to around the same size.  Then the swim went dead.

I returned home a happy man, as although id have loved to stay longer i just didn’t have time.  Still atleast i know where some of those stripeys are hiding for tomorrow and maybe monday as well!  I cannot wait to get back down there to see if any biggies are about!

The day arrived and i was down on the river by 4:15 ready to launch an assualt on the fish that lurked beneath.  The river was quite clear with a slow flow to it, not ideal conditions but i had to be there!  I baited with chopped worm and reg maggots on the edge of the reeds in the hope to tempt a stripey into biting!  I didn’t have to wait long and the first one was in the net.  Not a biggie but it was what i was after so i couldn’t complain.  After this i managed two more perch to a 1lb and a half on worms, a 4lb bream and a small chub.  Then the swim died.

I put the rod down and a pike went for the float which was just dangling on the water… shortly after he then assumed his resting position right against the bank about 2 feet away from me.  I couldn’t help to see what he would like for lunch, so i tried a few worms and managed to get them on video dropping into the water, then i tried a few tiddlers to see whether or not he was up for the challenge of a fishy snack!

Pike & Perch Fishing : The weekend ahead!

Well fingers crossed this weekend the river won’t be flowing hard and coloured chocolate brown, as last weekend it was real hard going!  Cold, wet and with the river in flood isn’t just wasn’t to be.  Tried all my tricks and the Pike just didn’t want to know.  Tried the slacks that had produced 4 doubles the week before but they just weren’t to be found in their favourite hide outs either.  Stumped!  So hopefully this weekend with less rain i should be in with a shot!

If it doesn’t look great i may have to resort to trying to catch some perch instead… hmmm!  I cannot wait, each day at the moment i am constantly checking the weather to see how its changing.  As for now its flippin cold but that sure as hell won’t stop me!  So far for the weekend its looking like a zero degrees day time temperature for both days although i’m sure a perch in the net will warm me up!

I’ll let you know how it goes!   Keep check on how i get on : www.perchforum.co.uk

Categoiry: Blog, Capture Reports

Well i have no idea what went wrong… the pike weren’t about feeding like normal, the perch were not up for it and even the silver fish had legged it!  What a day.  The river was dull with a slow flow to it, the weather looked good but the fishing wasn’t to be that great!  Tried different stretches down the medway and just before packing up managed a Perch just under 2lb - phew i had survived what i was certain of being a blank session.   I really thought the conditions looked good, but thats fishing i guess.  If it was always easy i suppose i’d get bored of it.  Hopefully this weekend after a long week at work the river will be full of life again and those preds will be after some of my baited rigs!

If not i guess its time to sit back and read Perch - Contemporary Days and Ways that turned up in the post earlier this week!  Seems like a good read so far and makes the daily commute to work a little easier!
